The legendary game that is GoldenEye based on the film of the same name was released 20 years ago.
The game absolutely revolutionised gaming forever with its superb first person shooting style of play, and split-screen multiplayer mode. The game was developed over a period of two and half years by an inexperienced team at developer 'Rare'.
It was released on the Nintendo 64 and helped catapult the Platform as one of the best selling video game consoles of all time, The Game itself was the third best ever selling game to be released on the Console. Selling over 8 million copies, making in excess of $320 million (AUD).
The game pioneered features such as the atmospheric single player mission, stealth elements and the console multiplayer deathmatch mode.
During development the small team had access to the GoldenEye studios, collecting photographs and blueprints of the set used in the film. The end result saw the game play and its missions expanded from that of the film, which gave it more authenticity to the overall design whilst still in keeping with the film it was based upon.
